The Martian by Andy Weir
After a sandstorm nearly kills him, his crew evacuates Mars thinking Mark Watney is dead. Mark now finds himself stranded on Mars, completely alone, with no way to signal Earth that he’s alive. Even if he could get word to NASA, his food supply will be gone years before a rescue team could arrive.
Mark soon realizes he must do more than survive the day. He has to plan long term if he wants to live for years, until the next mission is due to arrive on Mars. Mark embarks on a quest to stay alive, using his botany experience to grow food and even coming up with a plan to try and contact NASA back on Earth. As he overcomes one obstacle after the next, Mark begins to think he might make it off the planet alive. Unfortunately, Mars still has plenty of surprises in store for him.
Readers will be hooked on The Martian, which reads like a true story of survival. Along with Mark’s desperation to make it back to Earth, he never loses his sense of humor. Even as everything goes wrong, Mark never gives up. The Martian will have you rooting for Mark Watney to the very last page.
