Robots Invade ABC Story Hour

ABC Story Hour robots.jpg

These robot finger puppets were created by Avery, Aimee, and Maya at the ABC Story Hour here at the Fulton Public Library.  Story teller, Kathy King, provides more than just stories.  Kids will have fun with finger plays, songs, crafts, and fun filled props that keep children engaged while they learn at the same time.  The Fulton Public Library offers story time activities and crafts every Tuesday and Friday in the children's section of the library.  All are invited to join the fun.  Check the "Upcoming Library Events," for more information and times.

New York State Senator, Patty Ritchie, of the 48th Senate District and member of the Senate's Select Committee on Libraries, has recognized the increasing importance of local libraries to their communities.  In the last three years alone, library use in New York has grown 10%.  Senator Ritchie has secured an additional $250,000 in special grants to help libraries in Jefferson, Oswego, and St. Lawrence Counties.  You can show your support of local libraries by voting for your favorite library and outstanding local librarian.  Visit Senator Ritchie's "Love Your Library," page on her website to vote.

Fulton Public Library Supports Local Authors

D Sokolowski.jpg

The Fulton Public Library recently hosted author Diane Sokolowski for a discussion of her book So I Wanted to Run a Bed and Breakfast (Was I Crazy?).   Diane shared experiences in her role as the inn keeper of Battle Island Inn Bed and Breakfast.   Diane is just one of a growing number of local authors utilizing new avenues of publishing (including independent publishers and self-publishing) to tell their stories.

The Fulton Public Library supports our local authors by offering copies of their books for sale or traditional lending.   We have sponsored the publication of two books as part of the ongoing “Fulton Memoirs Project.”  The project compiles individual recollections and oral histories of the people, places, schools, and businesses that make Fulton a special community.

Check out our local authors display adjacent to the front desk at the library and support local authors!

If you know of someone who has published a book or is interested in doing so contact the library.

The Fulton Public Library recently welcomed librarian Douglas Moore to their staff. Mr. Moore is responsible for children’s and young adult services. He has an undergraduate degree in history from the State University of New York at Buffalo and a Masters of Library/Information Science from the State University of New York at Albany.  His library career includes experience at the New York State Library (Albany), the New York State Military Museum and Veterans Research Center (Saratoga Springs, NY), as well experience as an archivist at National Park Service sites in Puerto Rico, the United States Virgin Islands, Fort Stanwix National Monument, and Shenandoah National Park. After returning home to Central New York, Mr. Moore focused on fulfilling his career goal of working in a small community library. He found a perfect fit at the Fulton Public Library. He is currently enjoying new challenges, getting to know Fulton residents, and exploring the many unique local resources housed in the library.
